Art regenerates life

The Italian Pavilion, designed by MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects, represents Italy’s vision of the Universal Exposition theme: “Designing future societies for our lives”. The Italian slogan, “Art regenerates life”, expresses the deep connection between creativity, culture and sustainability, values that have always characterised our country.

Inspired by the ideal Renaissance city, the pavilion reinterprets the symbolic spaces of Italian architecture – squares, porticoes, theatres and gardens – in a contemporary key, transforming them into lively places where people, art and nature can meet. With a surface area of approximately 3,000 square metres and an internal height of 9 metres, the structure stands out for its extensive use of PEFC-certified wood, which accounts for over 85% of the materials used, making it one of the most sustainable pavilions in the entire exhibition.

Inside, the exhibition ‘Italy that builds – a history of People and Nature’, curated by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, takes visitors on an immersive journey from the Alps to Sicily, through landscapes, engineering works and innovations that tell the story of the dialogue between man and the environment.

The pavilion also houses masterpieces of Italian art – from the Farnese Atlas of the Archaeological Museum of Naples to the original sheets of Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Atlanticus, as well as works by Caravaggio, Perugino, Tintoretto, Boccioni and Jago – together with exhibitions dedicated to innovation, patents and Made in Italy.

Designed to last beyond the Expo, the Italian Pavilion is conceived as a symbol of beauty, creativity and sustainability, a bridge between the past and the future that celebrates Italy’s ability to build harmony between art, science and nature.
