Inauguration of the exhibition "L’Amato di Iside. Nerone, la Domus Aurea e l’Egitto" at the Domus Aurea
June 22nd, 2023
The exhibition “L’Amato di Iside. Nerone, la Domus Aurea e l’Egitto” was conceived and organised by the Colosseum Archaeological Park, with the curatorship of Alfonsina Russo, Francesca Guarneri, Stefano Borghini and Massimiliana Pozzi. It was inaugurated on June 22nd, 2023, and it will remain open until January 14th, 2024, inside the Domus Aurea.
The exhibition consists of more than 150 artworks with the collaboration of numerous museums and lending institutions. It represents an important opportunity to present to the general public new and evocative aspects of the history of ancient Rome, in particular the link between Rome and Egypt in the 1st century A.D. through the figure of an emperor, Nerone, who established a special relationship with the East and Egypt from a very young age.
The protagonist of this story is the Domus Aurea, the “House of Gold”, the gold of the Sun Divinity with whom Nerone identified himself according to a vision that was precisely oriental in nature.
