The annual meeting of the World Farmers’ Organization (WFO) was held at the FAO headquarters in Rome from June 17th to 21st, 2024. Five days of an intense program featuring speeches, discussions, meetings, voting sessions, and social and training events focused on innovations in the agricultural sector and solutions to be adopted regarding food health and climate change.

The main theme of the meeting was “Harvesting Tomorrow: Agriculture Shaping the Future of Farming and Food Production.”

The congress opened on June 17th with a day dedicated to young farmers from around the world, the first World Young Farmers’ Day, featuring the participation of Coldiretti National Delegate Enrico Parisi in the founding work of WFO Young.

The opening ceremony on June 18th officially kicked off the proceedings. It was attended by numerous sector authorities, including FAO Director-General Qu Dongyu, IFAD President Alvaro Lario, WFO President Arnold Puech d’Alissac, Italy’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty Francesco Lollobrigida, and Coldiretti President Ettore Prandini.

June 19th was dedicated to operational matters, with a closed-door day of discussions and voting, resulting in the election of new members and the reappointment of Arnold Puech d’Alissac as President for an additional two years.

On June 20th, there was space for discussion, with numerous interventions, including live streaming, involving farmers, industry representatives, and institutions to discuss solutions to be adopted. The focus was on the research world, civil society, and consumers, addressing the leading role of agriculture in shaping the future of food production.

Finally, on June 21st, visits to farms and agricultural businesses in the Lazio region provided farmers with the opportunity to explore some of the most cutting-edge realities in Italian agriculture.

Social moments were not lacking, with dinners organized by CIA and Coldiretti, and the closing event held at the Sanctuary in Rome.
