The 47th Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meeting (ATCM) and the 27th Meeting of the Environmental Protection Committee were organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and held at the Mi-Co Fiera Milano Congressi Centre in Milan from 23 June to 3 July 2025. The event was attended by representatives of the 58 consultative and non-consultative Parties to the Antarctic Treaty, as well as invited observers and experts, totalling 450 registered delegates.

The meeting expressed the urgent need for coordinated surveillance, biosafety protocols and inter-agency cooperation, as available data reveal the spread of the virus in several regions of Antarctica and its particularly aggressive nature.
